Mahmoud Niroumand As a lifelong athlete, I began competing in Track and Field when I was 13 years old. With lots of practice and numerous competitions, I found myself a good enough athlete to make the Iranian National team. My specialties were the high jump and the Decathlon. I competed on the national level until the age of 26. Track and field was my main focus which kept me away from playing much soccer, volleyball or tennis.
I re-discovered competing in Track and Field through Masters Events after having been away from the sport for over seven years and have gone on to compete Nationally as well as Internationally. I have traveled to different countries which gave me the opportunity to visit places that I had never planned to visit. Track and Field gave my life a positive direction.
Competing in Gothenburg, (Sweeden), Tampere, (Finland), Malaga, (Spain), Nanging, (China), Chiang Mai, (Thailand), Riccione, (Italy), Edmonton and Toronto (Canada) were some of my most memorable experiences. My favorite trip was to Italy where I took a short trip with some athletes to the city of Venice. I enjoyed singing on a gondola boat ride while tourists applauded me from the bridge above. I often look back at the good times I have had with friends and team mates during various meets. This encourages me to continue to make more pleasant memories.
My most notable achievements:
World Record Holder in two different age groups in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay.
Top 3 finisher in the world in several different events.
Inventor of the Hurdle Assist device which helps all levels of athletes to practice running hurdles safely.
